LONDON, UK 06/05/2011.Cleo, licking her lips, guards the 100 pots Dogs Enjoying Marmite at Battersea Dogs and Cats Home today (06 May 2011). 100 Jars were delivered to the home as part of a prize. You either love it or hate it, but at Battersea, marmite is causing quite a stir amongst the dogs. Jars of the yeast extract, which has polarised the nation into lovers and haters, are polished off in no time by Battersea's canine residents who have developed quite a taste for the spread. Today 100 of the famous yellow topped glass jars will cause tails to wag in the kennels when they are delivered to the Home. The year's supply of Marmite is a rather unusual, but very welcome prize to Battersea Chief Executive Claire Horton who will be presented with one of the first ever Dogs Today Endal Awards for Services to Animals. Claire Horton who requested the prize for the dogs, in favour of the usual dog food awarded, commented: "Battersea dogs definitely 'love it' when it comes to Marmite. We like to provide our dogs with lots of different activities throughout the week to try and help them cope better in a kennel environment. One of the dogs' favourites is licking Marmite from chew toys - it keeps them entertained for hours." Claire will be presented with her Endal Award by Marmite Brand Manager David Titman at the 2011 London Pet Show, taking place at Kensington Olympia, tomorrow, Saturday 7th May.Photo credit should read Stephen Simpson/LNP.
